MANUAL SATELLITE SYSTEMS

When choosing a manual satellite system there will invariably be several factors that will influence your choice such as the size of dish, budget, complexity of alligning it accurately with the signal, the weight if  you are travelling in a caravan or motor home or if you are looking at fitting a crank up type a lot of my customers ask about the mechanics of fitting it and wether it will be leak free.

One further consideration is the asthetics of it as I personally think it should look good on top of your vehicle, after all you've invested a lot of money in the vehicle so any accessories you have fitted should also look slick.

When choosing a dish size consideration should be given firstly to where you intend travelling to as my golden rule is ;  The further you travel away from the main signal focus the larger the dish size you will need and this always seems to be the main sticking point,  not wanting to carry big dishes or have large dishes on your vehicle when the reality is that ,if you travel within Europe with an incorrectly sized dish you simply won't be able to recieve the signal and bang goes Coronation Street !!

Below is a diagram which illustrates dish size against foot print of the main satellites, except Astra 2D which is a much smaller footprint concentrated over the U.K.

Once you've decided the size and type of manual system, due consideration should be given to the method of aligning the dish with the signal and unless you can use a compass you will have to have some kind of signal strength meter.

These can vary from a budget needle meter with audiable bleeper or buzzer which will detect just about all signals that you happen to swing your dish past creating confusion,  right up to our professional DSF80  and DSF80E meter which you select the required satellite on and then  will only detect the signal from that satellite.

The professional meter is as you would expect,  a lot more expensive than the budget one, but as the saying goes  " you only get what you pay for"  and it will save many many frustrating hours trying to set a small satellite dish up to receive a signal being beamed from miles above the earth. With the DSF80 you will be able to align the dish within a couple of minutes and then after practice and taking into account the direction of all the other campers dishes you will be able to align your dish even quicker.

Both types of meter and manual satellite systems can be viewed in the Teleco brochure opposite, if there is a particular type of system that you are looking for that is not in the brochure or you would like to discuss your needs including  directional or omni directional Terestrial T.V. antennas  please contact us.
